Barack Obama appeared in a town hall for Spanish-language media on March 6th to discuss ObamaCare and promote enrollments, and got challenged by a viewer on the economics of it for low-income Americans who are now forced to buy comprehensive health insurance. On a $36,000 annual income, the requirement to buy the broad policy rather than something a little more economical — say, hospitalization coverage combined with an HSA, a strategy which is now all but illegal — makes it impossible to comply. Pshaw, Obama replied. Why, all those low-income folks need to do is stop spending money on luxuries like cable television and cell phones!

"DEMOCRATS" Can't run on Obamacare Lies and can't hide from them either

Some Democrats hope to minimize the importance of Obamacare as a political issue by focusing on other topics in this November's midterm elections. Some hope to win by promising to fix the flawed nationalhealth care plan they passed in 2010. And others hope to turn the issue on Republicans by appealing to voters who have been helped by the law.

The problem is, none of that will work. The importance of Obamacare as an issue in November 2014 cannot be controlled by either political party. It will be determined by just one thing, and that is the performance of Obamacare as a law in the months preceding the election.

The Obama administration obviously understands that. There is no other explanation than political expediency for its announcement last week that it is extending the "keep your plan" fix until 2016 for Americans who have coverage that doesn't meet Obamacare's minimum standards.

The administration knows that the same kinds of cancellations that happened to holders of individual policies over the winter will happen later this year to people insured in the small group market. That could be a lot of newly-angry voters. So the White House put it off until after Election Day.

The administration did not take action because it feared Republicans might gin up some fake health care controversy to be used against Democrats. It took action because it knew Obamacare was going to impose new burdens on millions of Americans with an election approaching.

Obamacare is touching more and more Americans. Remember that chart cited by some liberal commentators suggesting that 80 percent of Americans would be entirely unaffected? Recent studies are showing something much different.

A survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation in February found that 54 percent of those interviewed said they have "not been personally impacted" by Obamacare. That number was down from 59 percent in January and 64 percent in December 2013. It will probably continue to fall; the 80-percent-unaffected idea was always a fantasy.

Meanwhile, Kaiser found that the number of people who say someone in their family has been "negatively affected by the health reform law" has climbed to 29 percent, up from 26 percent in December. Finally, the number of people who say someone in their family has "personally benefited" from Obamacare is at 17 percent, up from 11 percent in December. That's not a good ratio for Obamacare advocates.

Some Democrats, and their supporters in the press, will probably argue that not all those who say they or a family member have been negatively affected by Obamacare have actually suffered any ill effect. Maybe that's true, for some. But telling voters they're wrong is not a particularly effective electoral strategy.

Arlington, Va. – Today Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips responded to reports that Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid will return to the Senate floor today and continue his attacks on Americans who have been harmed by ObamaCare.

AFP President Tim Phillips said the following:

“Americans know better than to take lessons in civic virtue from Senator Reid, a career politician who has spent decades in Congress, and now descends from his Ritz Carlton penthouse to mislead Americans. It’s laughable that Senator Reid is trying to preach about the importance of credibility, when he has been one of the most vocal defenders of President Obama’s ‘Lie of the Year.’ Instead of taking responsibility for ObamaCare’s failures, Senator Reid and his allies are going after those who have been harmed by the law and brave enough to speak out  – and Americans for Prosperity, for giving these Americans a voice.

“Senator Reid is desperately trying to shift the public’s attention away from the health care law by, once again, attacking David and Charles Koch. Ironically, David and Charles create more jobs, more prosperity, and more well-being for Americans in a single year than Senator Reid and his big government policies will in a lifetime.

In a nauseating display of mean-spirited ignorance, MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry and her panel of five ridiculed Mitt Romney's black grandchild as something "that's not like the others." The MSNBC segment was a look back at 2013, and for some reason a Romney family photo that shows former Massachusetts governor with a grandchild on each knee was cherry-picked for mockery.

The only apparent reason for the ridicule was purely based on the race of Kieran Romney, the governor's adopted grandchild who happens to be black.

You can hear panelist Pia Glenn singing the lyrics to the "Sesame Street" song, "One of these things doesn't belong here." After finishing the ditty, Glenn says, "And that little baby, front and center, would be the one.”

Dean Obeidallah then attacks the child as token, "“I think this picture is great. It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person.”

Throughout, Harris-Perry chuckles along approvingly.

With just two days left in the year, MSNBC apparently decided that Martin Bashir calling for someone to defecate in Sarah Palin's mouth and Toure labeling CNN's Don Lemon (a black man) as a "white leader" just weren't low enough.
